What Is Celiac Disease? How Can Gluten Free Effect The Way You Eat?

Celiac is not the easiest thing to live with. I had an employee that worked for me about a year ago that had Celiac disease, and she could eat nothing! Really, it was a little distributing because once you know someone that has this, you begin to realize what it is, how it effects your body and how you eat, and just how many foods out there contain gluten or wheat proteins. It's crazy! Everything from cookies and breaded fish to noodles and stuffing! Having Celiac disease means that you cannot eat gluten or you can end up getting very sick.

We're not talking about your usual nausea and vomiting, you can actually end up in the hospital if you slip up and eat something with gluten in it. After you realize you have Celiac disease you may start wondering what you can eat - and if this means you are going to have to give up ALL your favorite foods. Well thankfully there are some things you can eat that do not contain gluten such as fresh meat, fish and shellfish, cheese, almonds, rice cakes, and eggs just to name a few. It seems like the can have list under-weighs the cant have list.

But that's okay, not only can you find foods that naturally do not have gluten in them, but you can also find websites such as ours that is a gluten free bakery. We have every Sweet you could possibly think of, and it won't make you sick, which is the most important thing! Sweets are a big one for me, so I simply cannot do without gluten free cookies, gluten free crackers or gluten free cakes. Also, available are wheat free cookies and gluten free snack products as well. So while having Celiac disease might not be the best thing in the world to have, at least you know that you have someone on your side when it comes to the things you can eat!

Don’t Just Live Gluten Free, Love It

When I was first diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I had a lot of mixed emotions. It was scary to find out that gluten-based foods, which I’d been eating my entire life, were actually harming my body. And it felt isolating to learn I had a disease that a lot of people don’t even know exists, let alone understand. But most of all it felt unfair – why should I have to give up my favorite foods while everyone else gets to eat whatever they want?

These emotions are all common among the recently diagnosed, but as I came to accept my disease, I actually started to feel thankful. CD does require a complete diet overhaul, but when you think about it, choosing gluten free snacks is a lot simpler and safer than the treatment plans for many other diseases.

As a CD patient, I don’t have to take any regular medication, which means my life is free of frustrating side effects and the monthly cost of prescriptions. And gluten is a non-essential protein in the human diet, meaning that even if I occasionally miss some of my old favorite foods, my body doesn’t.

Get Your Vegan On With Gluten Free Cookies

Gluten free cookies obviously cater to people with Celiac’s Disease – a disorder where your body is damaged by the absorption of gluten. But because of their production, gluten free snacks are also ideal for dessert-lovers with a variety of other dietary restrictions.

All of the cookies from Jo-Sefs Gluten Free Bakery are also free of wheat, diary, lactose, egg, nuts, trans fat, and preservatives. Plus, every product is both vegan and kosher.

As a vegan, I’m always on the lookout for yummy food that does not contain any animal products, and one of the areas where I usually come up empty is dessert. People are so used to using rich creams and eggs in their dough that they’re often unwilling to try baking something new.

You can imagine how excited I was to find the delicious varieties of snacks at www.JoSefsGlutenFree.com – not only do these gluten free cookies work with my diet, they’re also delicious! I’ve been recommending these gluten free snacks to all of my vegan friends, as well as the people I know with lactose allergies and those who like to keep kosher.
